FCC Approves KTRU License Transfer

Today, the FCC granted the applications to assign the license for KTRU 91.7 FM and its translator station 91.5 FM to the University of Houston System.

Please stay tuned to KTRU and savektru.org for further updates on the situation.

The transfer of the KTRU license to the UH System is an absolute shame. I strongly hope litigation will follow to stop the transfer.

A very sad day in my life.
I volunteered at KTRU between 250 and 50k watts, and now all I can think is the university stole all that time and effort. I didn’t volunteer to benefit the school – I did it for fun and the folks I worked with.
If I ever needed closure after moving on – this will do it.
Good luck to the current and future KTRU folk. May you have fun and grow with the times.
Whatever you do – think about re-writing the KTRU charter so the university has no ownership rights to whatever you create.

Oh my friends, I am so sorry.

In addition to setting up a new charter, I would encourage KTRU to set up a new fund(s) where disgruntled KTRU friends and Rice alumni can donate funds to KTRU. Specifically, I would add a long-term fund with a goal to get to a non-HD AM/FM signal at some point. I won’t give money to Rice for a LOOOONNGGGG time (please, call me Rice! let me VENT!), and I think many Rice alums might have some funds that need to be “re-directed” toward worthy causes.

I agree with curlydan! Rice will get NOTHING from me for the rest of my life. I’m giving it to KTRU and other worthy organizations. So if you guys give it a go as a 5013(c) or whatever, I will be happy to tell the telefund callers where their money went!
