I see in this morning’s local rag (Chronicle) that UH is facing draconian budget shortfalls. Are they still going to piss away $10 million for a dinky PBS radio station that generated no revenue and that no one listens too? This deal make even less sense than it did at the beginning, although Rice has only President Leebron to blame for the breach of trust.

The University of Houston through KUHF has several stations. In addition to the FM station, there are three channels of digital programming. HD channel one offers the same programming as is heard on FM. HD channel two has classical music during times the other channel is playing news and informational programming and vice-versa. In this fashion, KUHF HD listeners can receive either NPR news/information or classical music any time of day or night, 24/7. HD Channel 3 carries AHORA, Spanish language programming co-produced by NPR and Radio Netherlands Worldwide.

Why does UH need another station to offer what it already has on FOUR stations?

UH does not need FIVE stations!

Does anyone know if anyone voiced their opinion about this sale of the station at this UH board meeting? and if so, did UH peeps have anything to say? I couldn’t make it; had to work, but totally support KTRU, and have emailed all the peeps & creeps that needed to be, etc…

The Daily Cougar has this story about the UH board meeting: http://thedailycougar.com/2010/11/19/group-of-students-voices-its-opposition-to-ktru-acquisition-at-board-meeting/

Does anyone know if the Houston Chronicle even covered the UH Board Meeting last week? It seems to me that they are continuing to report as little to nothing as possible about the UH-Rice pending deal involving KTRU.
