Audio of UH’s August 2010 Board of Regents meeting released

Courtesy of Texas Watchdog, you may now listen to the UH’s August 2010 Board of Regents meeting concerning KTRU (as you may recall, the public was deliberately prevented of knowing about the meeting’s subject in advance.)

There is some sort of classical music takeover going on. San Francisco’s college radio just met the same fate as KTRU: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/01/19/MN8H1HARE7.DTL&type=newsbayarea

Conspiracy theories? Are there some sort of Koch brothers of classical music pushing this?

    Sadness all around.

Even UH’s own estimate was $12 million, or almost 33% above what they paid. And Rice refused to put it on the market or alter the character of the FCC to get real value above and beyond that. Then the UH Board chuckles to itself and gives thanks that Rice didn’t find a “greater fool” i.e., acknowledging the sweetheard nature and lowball price.

All of this between 5:30 and 7:00 on the clip, just as predicted back in the fall.

And then the UH Board notes, between 8:00 and 9:00, the inability to assign a market value to the true value of the station, which is having it be student run.

Fuck you, Leebron. You sorry worthless loser, the UH Board pointed out all the ways you got fucked on this deal and then did exactly what anyone in their position would have, which is take the 50,000 watts, laugh at you one more time, and run.

It’s no coincidence, Leebron, that you invited your fellow beigeist David Brooks to further degrade the university with his nauseating presence in May. He just called Asian moms wimps for demanding the finest for and from their kids (NYT 1/19). I guess it takes a wimp like you to know a wimp like Brooks, which is why you wanted to share his sorry example with the rest of us as a continued reminder of your own temerity and unholy beigeness. Seriously, I am rooting for you both to get hit by a bus.

Uh…yeah. Stop being so beige, guys.

OK, now that that’s been settled…Good for you KTRU for keeping up the fight!

Any word on what this means? Is it the AG being theatrically pressing on a few technicalities before approving the sale so they can claim they were “diligent”? Or, is this the start of the dismantling of the deal?

My gut tells me it’s the first, but I’d be open to any evidence otherwise.

The AG was ruling on an open records request; it is the FCC which rules on the license transfer, and we’re waiting to hear back on that.

I love how wonderfully clueless this reveals the board members to be. Particularly amusing the notion that the “internet station” Rice would transition to was “only for the rice students” ’cause ya know that internet thing hasn’t really caught on outside of college campuses… and why is it again that houston doesn’t have a full time classical station? Oh yeah, there was one, and it failed.
There is no “classical conspiracy”, just plain ol’ ordinary american douchebaggery. Leebron saw something that wasn’t his and decided to sell it for a quick buck to fill a hole in his budget. His name shall live on in infamy.
